The meaning of wellness

So what exactly is wellness? Most people think that wellness relates to health but much more than that wellness is a choice to assume responsibility for the quality of your life. It is first a mindset and then a practical application with the outcome that you feel empowered in every aspect of your life. Feeling empowered means you create a platform for unleashing your greatest potential…what I like to call “magic”.

This sounds all well and good but how exactly are we supposed to achieve a sense of wellness with the sometimes overwhelming demands of life as a women in 21st century South Africa? The answer lies in taking a different approach. After all taking repeating the same behaviour and expecting a different result (even if you do have a massage along the way) is the definition of insanity and once cannot tackle a challenge with the same mentality out of which it was created.

Contrary to what most individuals think, wellness is not going to gym or having a massage. Additionally wellness is NOT stress management after all stress does not arise from external situations but rather from our own interpretation of external events and the pressure we place on ourselves. Wellness requires us to have a vision of our lives, to begin to make conscious choices and to let go of being perfect. Once we let go of other’s expectations, we can engage the true vision for our lives; it in within this process that we start to achieve a sense of wellness;
